Joe Sanok joins us today to talk about his journey to releasing his new book, Thursday is the new Friday. After experiencing the burnout of the long hours of a five day workweek in healthcare, he knew something had to be different. Today we talk about that journey and how he is helping other professionals, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs take back their life, slow down, workless, and live more.
Joe took the traditional route of grad school and after graduating started a job at the community college as a therapist. He soon realized this full time position would not pay off his student loans and ended up opening his own counseling practice as a side gig. After it grew, he realized he was making more in his side gig than his full-time job at the college.
His desire to pay off his student loans and still be able to live his life he decided to try something different. Knowing he needed to replace his income from the College to take care of his family and manage his own cancer journey in 2012, he started on a new journey. He created an exit plan and began the transition. As he started going all into his side gig he decided to experiment with a 4 day workweek and evaluate how it affected his work.
After completing his experiment he looked at the numbers and saw he had made more in those four days than his normal five days in the office. So he continued the experiment of the four day workweek. Now he is bringing the benefits to a four day workweek to others.
In this episode you will learn the steps Joe took to make this transition in his life. He gives us the steps we can take to make it happen in our own lives too. From how to talk to your boss about making the shift from five to four days to creating an experiment of your own.
It all starts with asking some important questions to yourself or your staff. What do you love about your work? What do you hate about your work? Where would you like to grow? Then setting up your own experiment.
